गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥

Covid19 has changed lives of all of us. None of us is spared. All of us have suffered major losses. Many people have been fired. Others faced salary deductions. But did we thought about our nation builders? What teachers faced? What happened to our teachers? What new technological advancements our teachers have learnt? When it's said everything is online, when it's said workload is less, when it's said you are working under your comfort zone, do we know what a teacher is doing and going through? Taking classes to conducting activities, do we know how much time a teacher is devoting?

                      

सब काम बंद हो गए,

हम अपने घरों में कैद हो गए |

प्रकृति ने भी सबक सिखाया, 

2020 ने भी खूब रंग दिखाया ||

 No one can understand the importance of a teacher better than a disciple. Without a teacher there can be no doctor, no engineer, no architect, no lawyer. It is a teacher who recognizes and adores his student's skills. Very few teachers and students knew how to use technology. But Covid19 taught everyone. When the time came to teach their students sitting at home, all the teachers enthusiastically learned to use new technology for them. Some taught on Zoom App, some via Whatsapp, some via Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. A teacher did best for the students. 

But did we thank those teachers for their hard work? Did we give teachers their rights? Some were to join a new school in April, they had also left their previous school. Did we gave them work? Were we able to keep those who were with us for years? The answer to above all questions is a big NO.

 Let us hear from a teacher what she is doing through out the day when she is working from her home in her comfort zone.

I am a Teacher.........

I wake up at five,                                     

And take a deep dive,

Into my day,

To keep problems at bay.                                                                               

I am a Teacher........

By half past six,

All my work is fix,

After completing all my morning chores,

And leaving all the bores,

Now it's eight thirty

And here starts my duty.

I am a Teacher..........

My students greet,

When we meet,

Discuss the previous day,

And start the present day.

I am a Teacher.........

After an hour, it's a five minutes break,

So that the next class books, I can take.

Continues the process till it's half past two,

So that the next work, I can do.

I am a Teacher........

It's assignments and worksheet,

It's correction and report sheet.

Then there is a feedback,

To know the drawback,

Comes next, the planning to improve,

So as to remove the groove.

I am a teacher.........

After cooking and dinner,

It's time for planner.

By ten when I finish,

My family is, ready to punish.

They say I don't have time,

One hour classes, I have nine.

They say, now it's online, 

I say it's hard time.

They say you are paid half,

Atleast I can buy a scarf.

They say, school should understand,

I say, why to demand?

They ask another job to try                          

I know my students will cry.

This is what a teacher is doing when she is working from home. This is what a teacher is facing when she is in her comfort zone. This is what a teacher is undergoing despite working throughout the day.

A teacher is an epitome of inspiration. A teacher is an epitome of knowledge. A teacher cares, communicates, loves, teaches, understands the needs and emotions of its students. A teacher nurtures its students and shapes their lives. A teacher is one who transcends its students.

Let us stand united in these tough times and show our responsibility towards a teacher. Let us give a teacher what she deserves. Let us treat a teacher the way she deserves to be treated.
